Why the 100,000 give $5 drive?

As a private, Christian school that primarily serves inner city families with demonstratied financial need, we see every day what a struggle it is for inner city families in these difficult financial times. Because we see these struggles every day, we know that raising the tuition amount for our families is simply not an option.
Our Partners and Boaz Partners continue to help us bridge the gap, as we now serve more than 250 urban students with a remarkable, God-centered education.
While we will continue to need more Partners and Boaz Partners moving forward, we know that there is power in numbers. We know most people can't make a $2,500 or $5,000 gift--but they can give five dollars. A social networking site like Facebook has the incredible potential of letting millions of people--especially young people not normally inclined toward giving--know about the mission and vision of Hope Academy. We're asking you--yes, that means you--to make a secure gift of (at least) $5 to support the important work that happens here.
In short, we're taking our message viral.
So we are calling on those who care about education, those who care about the poor, and those who care about Minneapolis, to join us in serve the youth of the city. Whether you live in Minneapolis, Toronto, London, Paris, Sydney, Brussels, Baghdad, or Rio De Janiero, why not share in the joy? It's only five dollars.
Our goal is to see 100,000 different people give five dollars over the next year. This $500,000 will go toward general operating support: you know, paying teachers, purchasing curriculum, paying the rent. Most importantly, though, it will help us continue to let parents like Lateya McDougal (see quote above) afford to send her kids to a school like Hope Academy.

We're asking anyone and everyone to help spread the word about our goal of reaching $500,000 in $5 gifts by this time next year. Ask your friends to make a gift and join this Facebook group. If you have a blog, blog about Hope. If you're in a Bible Study, mention it. And pray that the Lord would continue to bring friends who share our vision for transforming the inner city one life at a time. |
